A Multitude of Features.
The Chicom Chest Rig boasts a stripped down functional design, featuring three pockets with hook & loop flap closures. These flaps are detachable and replaceable with CQB bungy tops (included in the set). The pockets accommodate AK/AR or similar sized magazines. Both sides, inside and out, host MOLLE/ PALS panels for attaching additional pouches. Additionally, the chest rig allows for the attachment of a first aid kit or a dangler pouch beneath it. Inside the rig is a flat map pocket for documents or inserts from the VIS system.
From the People's Army to the Free Market.
The name "Chicom" (derived from China and Communist) signifies the chest rig's origin in the People's Republic of China. In the 1940s, the Chinese army introduced chest-mounted pouches made of tarpaulin canvas suspended with straps, deviating from the earlier belt-mounted style. The straightforward design proved economical and comfortable for soldiers. Over time, various versions of the Chicom rig emerged, tailored to different ammunition, weapons, etc., including versions for the PPS submachine gun, SKS carbine, and AK-47. The Chicom chest rig gained popularity when American troops acquired enemy equipment during the Vietnam War, eventually finding its way to forces like SOG and the Navy SEALs. After 2000, the Chicom experienced a resurgence in popularity, driven by Special Forces in Afghanistan.
